Apraxia Walk!

Recently, I've been doing more research on childhood apraxia of speech, just to find out more about it. There's a lot of information on a website, www.apraxia-kids.org. It's really a great website. I've always seen that they have walks to raise money for research. I would have never thought there was one so close to home. It's pretty much right in our back yard. The walk starts about 4 blocks from our house and goes around town. Of course, every year the kids and I do the Susan G. Komen Race 4 the Cure in Kalamazoo, so since this was so close, we couldn't not walk.

Today I signed up the whole family, which includes Marty! He doesn't do the race for the cure but decided to join us for the apraxia walk! Go dad!!!

The SW Michigan apraxia walk was actually started by the grandmother of one of the kids that was in Mackenzie's play group. I say was, because you can only be part of early on until you're 3. If you still qualify for therapy you go to preschool. I thought that was very interesting, to actually know the coordinator. The family is also sponsoring a fund raising event on March 10th at Applebee's here in Plainwell. All you can eat pancake breakfast, $5 per person. So of course, we'll be attending that. The walk isn't actually until June 23rd.

I'm pretty excited for it, it should be fun!

Mold

I've been told that every house has mold. Well, ours does anyways. Marty found mold in the sun room/Buddy's room. What we thought would be a half day project has turned out to take longer than a weekend.

My mom came over yesterday to help me bleach and paint the walls and windows in the room. Every time we started in an area, we found something else that also needed to be fixed. So, we spent the weekend scrubbing, scraping, plastering, painting and every thing in between. Some of the plaster is still drying so I have to sand and paint more tomorrow. The wood windows also need to dry out, be sanded and painted but that part might take a while. But, once it's all done, it will be so nice!

I can't wait!

Fun!

Yesterday Cameron's head was really sweaty and red from his helmet so he had an emergency head check. I was told to leave his helmet off for a couple days until his redness clears. Now his redness is gone but his head is all scaly where it was red. Poor guy. Plus, he has a very stubborn yeast infection in his diaper, but is finally beginning to clear up. Not fun!

However, daddy was home for a bit last night and Papa fixed the furnace! Yay!!!

Today was the play group swim at the Allegan high school pool. I thought it was kind of dumb that we would go to Allegan when there's a pool in the school where we have the kids play group. Turns out Allegan has a really nice leisure pool as well as their competition pool. You can walk into it instead of ladders or stairs so that makes it really nice for kids. Plus, they have a little slide that Mackenzie loved. She loves swimming anyways, but I think she had more fun swimming with her friends. It was Cameron's first time in a big pool and he had a blast! If it wasn't for the teachers I would have had a terrible time getting Mackenzie to go to the locker room. They want to have more play groups there and there's open swim so I know we will be back! Fun!!!

Kiddos

Last Wednesday Cameron had his check up for his helmet. He's still wearing it full time for at least another month. He is down to 4 millimeters difference on his diagonal measurements.

Saturday night they had a sleep over at Papa and Gege's house. They had a great time! Marty and I went out for sushi at Sushiya and seen the new WWII movie, Red Tails. Both were great. I'm so glad we have some where the kids can go and have fun so we can have date nights every once in a while.

Yesterday I woke up to a freezing house. Our furnace needs a new part. Dad came and fixed it for now and is ordering the new part for us. Also, a couple of the early on ladies came over to evaluate Cameron and enroll him in early on physical therapy. They will be helping him build upper body strength. He doesn't like it too much because it's a lot of work, but it will help him. Last night the kids went to Papa and Gege's for dinner while Danielle and I went to my Mary Kay meeting. We had a guest event which was luscious lips. We did satin lips and tried 3 new lip formulas with clear lip liner, new red lip stick and red lip gloss. After that, we all kissed a piece of paper and was judged on most kissable lips. 2 ladies had their husbands come in as our judges and they didn't know who's was who's. I was #2 out of the top 3! Yay!!!

Today was Cameron's first day of therapy. And Mackenzie had her therapy this morning as usual. We're doing Cameron's therapy at the same time and same classroom as Mackenzie do it makes it easy.

Swimming on Thursday for play group . I think the kiddos will have a ton of fun. Mackenzie loves swimming but Cameron has never gone swimming.

Enjoy your week, I know I will!

Life As I Know It

We've been going about our daily life, as usual.

Marty and I watched the super bowl last night as we had a $10 bet. I bet that the Patriots would win and Marty had the Giants. Of course, now I owe him $10 :( We didn't have normal snacks like usual but we made a big, very yummy dinner; chicken, cheesy potatoes and veggies!

This morning Marty got up early and went to work. Cameron had his 9 month check up today. He's a healthy boy! 29 inches but only 19 lbs. he goes back in a month for a weight check. He has a recommendation to go to early on for crawling and scooting and really just upper body strength. Early on is the program that Mackenzie is in for her speech. His helmet is doing great. The Dr. said his head looks great. He goes in on Wednesday for his head measurements. He may be out of his helmet then, but probably not.

Mackenzie is doing great! Talking like crazy, learning new words every day! She goes to therapy tomorrow and Thursday.

Same old, same old every week!
